“He's so... catchy!”
— Theresa Uzelman (mother in law)
Malcolm has a tough time explaining his sound. He grew up listening to what his parents played which was predominantly what is now called classic rock, and country music. When he had his own money to purchase music he would buy rap cassettes and when it was time to switch to cds it was all about the 90s alternative music. Cassettes? Yeah he's 44 and doesn't mind telling people. "I've got grey hair. But at least I have hair." After some long thought on the topic he's decided that he sounds most like They Might Be Giants. "They have multiple sounds, nice melodies, and quirky lyrics. I thought my influences would shine through in my writing. But the more I wrote the more I just sounded like myself." After a few talent show wins (singing old country), playing in a couple of bands, and doing some recording, he realized his need to play isn't going away. "When my daughter was born I was struck by the need to provide a happy environment to raise a child. The best way for me to be happy is to play music."
